GCLs are composite materials that consist of a layer of bentonite clay sandwiched between two geotextile fabrics. The bentonite clay layer is typically made of high-swelling sodium bentonite that has excellent water-absorption properties, while the geotextile layers provide support and stability to the clay layer.
